Can You Touch Your Feelings?
On a freakishly warm November day, I headed down to the World Trade Center to get in touch with my emotions. This Single Girl Excursion led me to a new exhibit at The Museum of Feelings. This free excursion is located by the World Trade Center and as usual, I got a little lost as I emerged out of the Chambers Street station. Luckily, Google Maps led me to the beautiful Brookfield Place and located in the back is the museum.
I almost went back home when I saw the line, but I figured since I was already here and had nothing else to do the rest of afternoon, I could wait it out. The line moved pretty fast and one of the museum employees came out to direct the line and entertain patrons while they wait. He told the couple next to me that the line was pretty short today, was moving faster than usual, and that the experience was worth it. Finally, after an hour I made it to the front patiently watching patrons leave, so I could be let in.
When you walk in your guide is waiting for you with a postcard with one side scented opening you to your emotional journey called Joyful.
The other side shines allowing you to bounce beams of light off of the two pieces below.
My favorite part of the exhibit was Invigorated. It is a post-modern take on a forest and it smelled like pine.
All of the exhibits were interactive whether it was utilizing video, touch, scent, or sculpture. You were enveloped in these emotions and each person experienced them differently. It takes about 20-25 minutes to go through and at the end you can take a picture that will display your current emotional state.
Did I mention this was free? If you have an afternoon to yourself or with friends take a trip down to The Museum of Feelings. If you have taken this emotional journey please comment below. You can also follow me on Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.
