Taking Care of Me
As my work-flow increased, so did my desire to take some time off. I made the decision to take a few days in July to reconnect with self and hang out with friends and family. July began with taking care of me. I recently signed up for a Yelo Spa membership for facials. You can’t be cute with bad skin.
I frequented this spa before when they had specials. They are a little pricey, but worth it. The extractions never hurt and my skin is glowing when I leave. The best part of the membership is that I can cancel it at any time, transfer to family members, and I receive discounts off the products they use.
One of my girls is bringing me back to Jazz. My Mom, her, and I decided to take a Jazz cruise on one of the hottest damn days in July, but it was worth it. The Smooth Cruise located at Pier 40 by Houston has Jazz cruises on Wednesdays during the summer. We got to see BWB and they were so good my Mom did not want to get off the boat. For about 2 hours you travel around the city, see historic sights, and listen to some great live music. I can’t wait to go again.
Great Eats Around The City
When you are balling on a budget or need to destress after a hectic day of work I recommend Bronx Alehouse. They have great ales, cider on tap, and great food.
I usually get the Pear Cider, wings, and their fries, I recommend the cajun fries. My friends and I usually spend $20 per person which is right up our frugal alley. And when you enter the Alehouse you are treated to hot buttered popcorn while you sip on one of their great beer selections.
It is so hard to find a good brownie. Yes, a brownie. Some come out too dry, too sweet, or baked with not enough chocolate.
After one of my speech therapy sessions, one assistant mentioned a great place to get brownies and other confections. After having great food and drink at Bronx Ale House I headed over to Chocnyc. As a brownie connoisseur, I am happy to report that their brownie was one of the best I have ever had. At Chocnyc you can tell they use premium chocolate. The brownie was nice and chewy, had chunks of chocolate, and walnut pieces. I couldn’t eat all of it and put it in the fridge. It tasted just as delicious the next day, not dried out like other brownies I’ve purchased.
Upper West Side
I love a little bit of spice in my food and Thai food always satisfies that craving.
My uncle another lover of Thai came up to NYC for a visit and I searched the internet to fulfill our needs. Yelp came to the rescue and led us to Thai Market. My favorite Thai dish is Chicken or Shrimp Basil and if I can’t handle the heat I just ask for more water. Each time I go I try something new from the menu or their daily specials. Service here is fast and prompt, but you better arrive early. Each time I have gone to Thai Market it has been packed. The only downside is their drink menu. I haven’t found a signature cocktail from their menu that I like. So, if you are looking for affordable Thai I recommend Thai Market.
It is so hard to find and make a good meatball, but Ristorante Rafele has figured it out. I took my Mom here before getting on the Smooth Cruise and we were not disappointed. The meatballs are listed as polpettine on their menu and we ordered 3 servings.
Do not leave without having them. We arrived for lunch and were the only ones in the restaurant, but I am sure they are packed for dinner service. I can’t wait to go back and try another dish off their menu.
