I am finally venturing out more as I still heal from my recent surgery. For the past 3 months it has been home and Barnes and Noble, but now its getting warmer in New York City. I love NYC in the spring and summer. One of my friends told me about the Holi Hai festival that took place on April 30th. Even though it has passed I still wanted to do a post for you Naturalistas who have never been. I got there a little late but still received a few sprinklings of the colored powder.
I didn’t do my research on how it would affect my natural hair. I thought I could just wash it out later when I got home. Boy, was I wrong! I couldn’t get the colored powder out so, here is a chart of where I went wrong and how you can go right.
Hair Care after Holi Hai
|Wrong Way||Right Way|
|No Hair Covering||Cover hair with headscarf or turban|
|Didn’t Pre-Oil hair||Pre-Oil hair with favorite oil|
|Washed hair with Hot Water||Wash Hair with Cold Water|
I went further into wrong when I couldn’t get it out of my hair and washed it with vinegar, which of course dried it out. Finally, after days of cotton colored pink and blonde hair I finally used Ajax. Yes, ladies and gents Ajax. It did get it out of my hair after a few tries, but I am quite sure I damaged it a little.
Even though I went through all of these hair tribulations I do recommend that you attend at least one Holi Hai festival. All religions and races are welcome to spray color powder on anyone. They have lively entertainment and food vendors as well. However, you cannot bring outside colors. The event prefers for you to buy onsite because the colors they sell are non-toxic.
I would love to hear about your hair experiences after a Holi Hai. Please comment below and follow me on Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest.
