A Day To Be Someone Else
I love Halloween because I get to see all the kiddies dress up and as an adult I get to partake in the festivities too. Free goodies and a chance to be someone else for a few hours equals a whole lot of fun. Some view Halloween as evil or associate it with the Devil, but its history is way less sinister.
Reclaiming Our Connection
In many cultures, it is a day of connecting with the spiritual and communing with ancestors. Whether it is lighting a candle at a gravesite, preparing a meal or place setting for a relative long gone, Halloween has always been about our connection to the spiritual world. This connection many of us have lost.
Reconnect With Self
To be spiritual does not necessarily mean you have a particular religious affiliation. Spirituality is our connection to humanity, oneness with the Earth, or one simply gazing at the stars. Halloween is also a good day to regain that connection back to self. You can do this by taking a long walk, meditation, listening to some soothing music, or writing some of your yearly goals that you hope to meet before the year ends. Halloween is a powerful day to regain your power, especially if you currently feel powerless.
I am not sure what Halloween holds for me this year, but I do know that I will be taking that day for myself. I still believe it should be a holiday. We can call it National Dress Up day. A day where cosplay is acceptable even for work. So this Halloween evening after all the trick or treating, let’s light a candle and find a space in our home to regain our connection with the spiritual realm.
